Environmental and Agriculture Benefits

Antietam Community Solar is committed to maintaining the environmental and agricultural value of the land used to site our projects.

By planting small scale crops and growing native plants under our solar panels we will:

- Use a combination of deep rooted plants to Increase storm water infiltration and reduce run-off

- Create an intense habitat for bees and other pollinators

- Eliminate the use of pesticides and herbicides

- Suppress dust and reduce fossil fuels needed for mowing and maintenance

- Provide attractive and colorful landscaping

Our plans include:

- Test crops and shade-tolerant plants such as kale, basil, and arugula.

- Low growth native plants, including the Maryland State flower, Black-eyed Susans

- Year round pollinator haven and bee colony
